The West Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek is an exceptional off-the-beaten-path adventure tucked deep within western Nepal’s untouched Himalayan frontiers. Serving as the primary staging area for formidable 7,000-meter giants like Churen Himal, Putha Hiunchuli, and Gurja Himal, this remote region surrounds trekkers with sweeping glacial landscapes and dramatic snow-capped panoramas. Far removed from Nepal’s crowded mainstream trails, the valley offers a rare sanctuary of pristine alpine meadows, dense forests, and authentic Magar cultural heritage.
While historical expeditions navigated the rugged Gurjakhani trail, modern approaches feature diverse circuits passing through scenic gateways such as Dhorpatan, Jaljala, and Eastern Rukum. Choosing a circuit starting in Dhorpatan and exiting via Jaljala showcases the full diversity of the terrain, taking trekkers through serene yak pastures and high mountain passes. For adventurous travelers seeking true wilderness isolation and unspoiled mountain vistas, the West Dhaulagiri circuit delivers an unforgettable Himalayan journey.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. This is also an excellent opportunity for any last-minute trekking gear shopping in the lively streets of Thamel.
A scenic drive takes you west from Kathmandu, passing through Nepal’s first road tunnel at Thankot before following the Trishuli River. The road to Muglin is winding, but from Muglin to Pokhara you travel along one of Nepal’s most beautiful highways with spectacular views of rivers, terraced hills, waterfalls, and the Annapurna Himalaya. Upon arrival, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Pokhara, famous for beautiful Phewa Lake, stunning mountain scenery, and relaxed lakeside cafés.
Leave Pokhara behind and enter the remote hills of western Nepal. The journey crosses Kade (1,750 m), Ghoda Banne (2,155 m), and Dhorpatan Daurali (2,960 m), offering magnificent views and changing landscapes. Dhorpatan is Nepal’s only hunting reserve and an important gateway to the hidden valleys of the Dhaulagiri region.
Begin trekking through alpine meadows and forests. Enjoy a gradual climb to Garva Dhuri (4,025 m), where panoramic views reward your effort, before descending gently to the peaceful grazing pastures of Daha Kharka.
Today’s route follows beautiful high ridges, crossing Phusre Pass (4,150 m) and Tikadhara Ridge (4,200 m). Throughout the day, enjoy magnificent alpine scenery before descending gradually to the campsite at Dhuka via Phalyaghar.
One of the most adventurous days of the trek. Cross the remote Dhaile Pass using traditional shepherd trails that follow the high ridge. After enjoying spectacular Himalayan panoramas, descend through Phalyagahr before reaching the beautiful campsite at Mansunmela.
Follow the pristine Kape Khola (upper Sani Bheri River) deep into a remote Himalayan valley. Surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks, this is one of the least-visited trekking destinations in Nepal.
Spend the day exploring the spectacular surroundings of West Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Optional hikes provide breathtaking views of Putha Hiunchuli 7246m, Churen Himal7371m, Gurja Himal 7193m, and Dhaulagiri VI 7268m. The untouched wilderness and dramatic glacier landscapes make this one of the trek’s highlights.

Arrive in Pokhara and enjoy a comfortable evening by Phewa Lake. You may celebrate the completion of your trek while admiring sunset views over Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the Annapurna Range.
This extra day provides flexibility in case of bad weather, road delays, or other unforeseen circumstances during the trek. If unused, it can be enjoyed as an additional leisure day in Pokhara.
A short scenic flight returns you to Kathmandu, offering spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas. The afternoon is free for shopping, sightseeing, or relaxing before your departure.
Enjoy your final day exploring Kathmandu’s cultural heritage, visiting local markets, purchasing souvenirs, or simply relaxing at your hotel.
